Diesel heating
Usable in the van for more of the year
A diesel night heater is one of the most worthwhile upgrades on a campervan. It extends the season the van is comfortable in, helps dry the interior after a wet day and runs from the vehicle's own fuel rather than gas bottles.
Installation
Planned around the layout and the underside of the van
Heater position, combustion-air intake, exhaust routing, fuel pick-up and ducting all have to be planned together with the furniture and seating. Getting those decisions right at the start is what produces a quiet, tidy installation that heats the living area evenly.
Diesel heating can be fitted to a van we have converted, a van converted elsewhere or a standard panel van, and it is a common addition alongside insulation work.
- Heater mounted under a seat base or within the furniture
- Fuel supply taken from the vehicle tank or a dedicated tank
- Combustion-air and exhaust routed to the manufacturer's requirements
- Ducting and outlets positioned for even heat through the living area
- Digital or app-based controller fitted where supported
- Carbon monoxide alarm installed as part of the heating installation

Carbon monoxide protection
Where Potteries Camper Co installs a diesel heater, a suitable carbon monoxide alarm for leisure-vehicle use is installed as part of the heating installation.
The alarm provides an additional layer of protection. It does not replace correct heater installation, combustion-air and exhaust arrangements, ventilation or the manufacturer's installation requirements.
The alarm position is selected to suit the vehicle layout and the instructions applicable to the alarm being fitted, and it is explained at handover along with the rest of the fitted equipment.
