Beds & seating

Comfort when parked. Confidence when travelling.

The bed and seating system shapes almost every other part of a campervan interior. Passenger requirements, bed width, kitchen depth, storage and usable floor space all need to be considered together before the layout is fixed.

Potteries Camper Co offers a range of travel-seat/bed systems and lounge layouts, including rock and roll beds, RIB systems and ROAM seating. Where rear travel seats are required, the specific seat, restraint and mounting arrangement is selected for the vehicle and its intended use rather than relying on a generic claim that one system suits every conversion.

Bed systems

Choosing the right system

Rock and roll beds

Rock and roll beds remain a practical all-round choice for Transporter conversions. They provide rear seating and convert into a double bed, with useful storage available beneath many designs. We use established systems selected according to the required width, passenger use, test or approval evidence, installation method and budget. The exact bed and mounting arrangement is confirmed before the build begins.

Available widths

  • Slimline — preserves more floor and furniture space
  • Standard width — balances kitchen space, seating and sleeping comfort
  • Full width — maximises the sleeping area and suits a reduced or alternative kitchen layout

RIB beds

RIB seat/bed systems are a well-established higher-specification option, valued for supportive travel seating, a smooth bed conversion and a comfortable sleeping surface. Different widths and installation arrangements are available, allowing the system to be matched to the furniture layout and the vehicle.

Available widths

  • Slimline — allows additional space for furniture and movement
  • Standard width — a versatile layout for conventional side kitchens
  • Full width — prioritises the largest possible bed and seating area

ROAM travel seating and lounge systems

A U-shaped rear lounge

ROAM offers a distinctive U-shaped layout that combines a certified rear travel-seat section with integrated three-point belts and stationary lounge sections. The certified travel-seat section and the stationary lounge sections have different functions: only the travel-seat section is intended for use while the vehicle is moving.

A U-shaped rear lounge creates a generous social space when parked and converts into a large sleeping area at night. It is particularly well suited to long-wheelbase vans and layouts where relaxed living space and a larger bed are priorities.

  • Comfortable wraparound daytime seating
  • Large sleeping platform
  • Storage can be incorporated beneath the seating
  • Well suited to longer stays and relaxed touring
  • Furniture and table options can be coordinated with the lounge

Upholstery and finishing

Coordinated with the rest of the conversion

Upholstery can be coordinated with the rest of the conversion, with matching front-seat retrims available where required.

  • Automotive fabrics and leatherette options
  • Two-tone finishes, contrast stitching and piping
  • Matching front-seat upholstery
  • ISOFIX where included in the selected approved or certified system
  • Additional under-bed storage and table options

Safety, certification and installation

Terms such as M1, crash-tested and ECE R14 relate to specific tested seats, restraints, anchorage arrangements and installation configurations; they should not be treated as a blanket approval for every van conversion. We will confirm the evidence and fitting requirements that apply to the selected seat, vehicle and mounting system before work begins.

Find the system that fits the van

The bed should suit the layout, not the other way round

Whether your priority is rear travel seating, sleeping comfort, maximum bed width or a spacious lounge, Potteries Camper Co will help you choose a system that works with the complete campervan layout rather than designing the rest of the interior around an unsuitable bed.

Day and night

Seating by day, bed by night

Bed and seating systems can be supplied and fitted on their own, including retro-fitting a suitable travel-seat/bed system into a van that is otherwise unconverted.

Bed width, belt provision and fitment depend on the vehicle and the system selected.
